Church Mission Society Ireland (CMSI) has shared an update from Connor’s partner diocese of Yei in South Sudan.
The society reported that Bishop Hilary of Yei has expressed his thanks for funds gifted by Lisburn Cathedral for pastors in Yei Diocese who were struggling to feed their families, saying he was able to support a total of 85 pastors throughout the current emergency.
The bishop said that fighting has resumed around the Yei area – just as the markets were beginning fill up with supplies, armed groups have been attacking the people doing business. “The people then flee leaving their goods and money on the ground and the armed men rob all these,” Bishop Hilary told CMSI.
The society is urging people to continue to pray for lasting peace and growth for South Sudan.
The Bishop Allison Theological College, previously based in Yei and currently in exile in Northern Uganda, has reported that a retreat was arranged for pastors in refugee camps, and there are plans to continue training pastors as soon as Covid-19 restrictions allow.
