Many congratulations to Violet McKnight, a parishioner of St Paul and St Barnabas, Belfast, who celebrated her 100th birthday on October 25.
Violet and her family continued to worship in St Paul’s Parish Church in York Street
after the amalgamation of St Paul and St Barnabas.
She lives in sheltered accommodation and is still able to do a little cooking herself.
Very highly thought of and loved by her family and all who know her, Violet has a very strong faith and is often heard singing her favourite hymns and praying for her family and friends.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and to observe social distancing, Violet wrapped up warmly to meet friends and family outside her home on her big day.
The Rev Dr Isy Hawthorne-Steele, priest-in-charge of St Paul and St Barnabas, other members of Violet’s church family and other friends joined Violet’s family to celebrate the occasion.
Violet received a birthday card from Her Majesty the Queen, a letter of congratulations from the President of Ireland, and a card from the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison. “She shed a few tears when we sang Happy Birthday and God’s blessing on her,” said one of Violet’s fellow parishioners. “We send her our love as we leave her in God’s care.”
