Summer Music School for ages 7-14 at Belfast Cathedral

Tuesday June 8th 2021

Belfast Cathedral is running a Summer Music School and is inviting children aged 7-14 to sign up.

The course will run from August 16-20 from 9am-4pm daily, and offers children the opportunity to work with a team of specialist music tutors. The course will culminate in a concert performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat and other works for family and friends.

A variety of musical and other activities will take place during the week including singing, vocal work in sectional groups, and musicianship classes. With the emphasis very much on fun, skills developed throughout the course will include music reading abilities, aural, pitch and rhythm awareness and music theory.

The course is open to all children regardless of their musical ability. Some of Belfast’s finest professional musicians will create a vibrant and exciting programme.

Each day, a different family of instruments will visit, giving the children a chance to learn about and hear a number of instruments of the orchestra, alongside the great cathedral organ.

At the end of the week, friends and family will be able to hear what their children have accomplished at a concert performance of their week’s achievements.

Musicianship classes will be divided into 4 tiers:

  • Complete beginners (No grade expected)
  • Beginners (Instrument/theory grade 1-2)
  • Intermediate (Instrument/theory grade 3-5)
  • Advanced (Instrument/theory 5+)
