We extend a warm welcome to Garvin Jess, who has joined the staff in Church House in Donegall Street, Belfast, as full-time receptionist with clerical duties.
Born and bred in Lisburn, Garvin is a member of Lisburn Cathedral, where he worked as part-time administrator for the past 11 years. Prior to that, he was with the Post Office for 28 years, 15 of these as a manager.
Garvin is married to Frances, and they have two daughters – Amee, who is married to Neville, and Chloe, who is married to Michael. He is proud granddaddy to Amee and Neville’s baby son Jude.
He has a keen interest in music and used to play in the Lisburn Cathedral Worship Band. He now plays five-string banjo in Lisburn Bluegrass Banjo Circle, a bluegrass group of which he is founder member.
Garvin was welcomed to his new role by colleagues and the Bishops of Connor and Down and Dromore on Monday November 1, his first day. “I am very much looking forward to the job and learning the ropes and the different systems and getting to know people,” Garvin said.
After a long closure due to the pandemic, Church House is now open again, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm (closed for lunch 12.45pm-1.30pm).
