Rehearsals.

Belfast Cathedral Choir’s second recording for Resonus Classics, which contains world premiere recordings of works by the contemporary composer, Philip Wilby, has just received two great reviews from the musical press.

Matthew Owens and composer Philip Wilby.

In the first, an in-depth review from the leading online classical music reviewing website, MusicWeb International [click here for the write up], the reviewer says that he couldn’t imagine the work receiving ‘a better debut recording than this one,’ and praised the performances as ‘consistently excellent,’ saying – of Belfast Cathedral Choir – that it sings ‘very well indeed and though the forces are quite small in number one is not conscious of a small choir because all the singers are professionals.’

Even more importantly, Gramophone, recognised internationally as one of the two leading classical music review magazines, gave the album a fantastic review, full of praise for the performers, including the ‘superb 16-strong cathedral choir.’ See the full review here.

These reviews follow the Northern Ireland premiere of the work, which was performed on Palm Sunday, in the presence of the composer [Report].
