Belfast Cathedral has announced an exciting opportunity for accomplished young singers to join the Choir of the Cathedral as a Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass Choral Scholar.
The Choral Scholarships will enable young people to enjoy singing the great Cathedral repertoire in a beautiful building with a superb acoustic, making friendships that will last a lifetime, receive training, and learning new skills as part of a committed team of musicians.
The Cathedral’s new Master of Music, Jack Wilson, is keen to hear from individuals interested in auditioning, and expressions of interest are most welcome.
Duties of a Cathedral Choral Scholar include singing the services of Choral Eucharist and Choral Evensong each Sunday in term-time, as well as at the major Festivals of the Church, and frequent civic occasions; and attending the weekly choir rehearsal, each Thursday evening.
There is a scholarship grant of £1,500 for Choral Scholars who are university students, and £750 for those who are still at school.
Choral Scholars will receive free singing tuition.
Choral Scholars applying for university choral scholarships or other musical positions will have an opportunity to receive special training that should be helpful in preparing for voice trials, auditions, and interviews, delivered by guests who are experts in their field.
There are vacancies for Soprano, Alto (male or female), Tenor, and Bass Choral Scholars from September 2023.
