Summer has finally arrived – yet here we are talking about Christmas Tree Festivals – and in particular the fabulous seasonal festival planned by St Colman’s, Kilroot!
The festival will get underway on Thursday December 7 with opening service and will run until Sunday December 10, closing with a Service of Evensong.
The theme is ‘Favourite Bible Stories’ and St Colman’s has invited all the organisations connected with the church or who meet in the church along with the local schools, to choose their favourite bible story and decorate a tree to reflect this.
Each group will provide their own tree, either real or artificial, the size and colour is up to them, and when the festival is over they may take the tree home if they wish.
Marion Magill, St Colman’s treasurer and chair of fundraising, said: “We are looking forward to seeing the variety of trees and stories represented. A Christmas tree festival is a beautiful thing to see for young and old, and for those unable to provide much festive decoration in their own home, we hope they will come and enjoy the decorations in the church.
“We are aiming to bring joy to all through art and music while raising funds for worthwhile causes.”
All donations collected during the festival will be divided between the NI Children’s Hospice, The Alzheimers Society, and church funds.
Refreshments will be available during the opening hours: Thursday December 7 – opening service at 7pm, Friday December 8 – 3 to 8pm, Saturday December 9 – 11am to 5pm, and Sunday December 10 – 1-5 pm, closing Service of Eevensong at 5pm.
