Children’s officer gives glowing review of ‘Adventures in Acts’

Thursday July 11th 2024

Children’s author David Luckman’s latest publications, Adventures in Acts Volumes One and Two, are ‘a fantastic retelling’ of the Book of Acts, says Victoria Jackson, Connor Children’s Ministry Development Officer.

David Luckman is Church Planter at Hilden Community Church, part of Lambeg Parish, and has written several biographies in the Christian Focus Trail Blazers series for children.

Victoria describes these latest hardback books as ‘beautiful… the illustration is lovely and the hardback design makes them very practical for children!’

David Luckman states: “The Book of Acts is often lost between two giants of the Bible’s New Testament – John’s Gospel and Romans. At times it is neglected, seen as a hotbed of schism and disunity between Christians. Many look on it as a church manual, telling Christians how they should govern churches, or how to apply the sacraments, or what our experience of the Holy Spirit should be.

“Nonetheless, to paraphrase the great 20th century preacher Dr Martin Lloyd Jones, there is no greater tonic in the realm of the Spirit than a thorough reading of the book of Acts.”

David says he is ‘absolutely thrilled’ to present Adventures in Acts, launched this week, for children aged seven to 11. Illustrated by Silvana Di Marcello, David says the books are ‘all about the continued acts of the risen and ascended Christ, as his gospel spread throughout the world.’

Thanks to Victoria for taking the time to review both volumes of these new books.

Connor Children’s Ministry Development Officer Victoria Jackson reviews ‘Adventures in Acts.’

She writes: Adventures in Acts by David Luckman are a fantastic retelling of the Book of Acts, bringing this action-packed book of the Bible to life for older children!

“It is presented in the form of a story to make it more accessible and easy-to-read for children, however the author has been careful to stay true to original text and all of the key details are still included so that no Biblical truth is lost.

“The accompanying discussion sections are fantastic for families to use this book together, or for Sunday school groups. The ‘What’s the point’ section explains the key message which we can take from the passage and the ‘Look Back/Forward’ and ‘Check this out’ sections help children to relate the passage to the Bible as a whole.

“I particularly like the ‘Think’ section which encourages discussion and deeper thinking about the passages!

“These books are a lovely cross between a children’s bible and a family devotional book, with beautiful illustrations to capture the imagination! I will definitely be recommending this series to families within Connor Diocese!”

Adventures in Acts is in two volumes and is available to buy in any Christian bookshop or directly from the publisher, Christian Focus Publications, at www.christianfocus.com priced £9.99 each.
