On Sunday August 4, St Columba’s, Whiterock, held a service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for the past 62 years of parish life.
Services of Sunday worship in St Columba’s Church will now cease, and the congregation is becoming part of a new union in the Mid Belfast Rural Deanery.
The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison, and the Archdeacon of Belfast, the Ven Barry Forde, led the worship alongside the Rev Canon Tracey McRoberts MBE, Rural Dean, the Rev Adrian Bell and Sister Karen Webb, Church Army.
Ste Fitzgerald, pioneer evangelist with the North Belfast Centre of Mission, accompanied some of the songs on his guitar.
There were a number of former staff members in attendance including the Rev Tim Kinahan, the Rev Canon Chris Easton and the Rev Peter Blake, along with Brian Kingston, MLA. The congregation was delighted to be joined by other parishioners from the rural deanery and they all enjoyed a buffet of snacks and sandwiches.
Everyone received a wooden bookmark with an image of the church on it.
