The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison, has paid tribute to Archbishop Noel Treanor, who died on Sunday August 11, describing him as ‘a good friend to us in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Connor.”
The 73-year-old was Bishop of Down and Connor for 14 years until his appointment by Pope Francis as Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union in November 2022.
Bishop George said: “I am very sorry to hear of the sudden death of Archbishop Noel Treanor in Brussels. In his former role as Bishop of Down and Connor, Archbishop Noel was a good friend to us in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Connor. We valued his friendship and his commitment to inter-church relationships and look back on many happy times spent in his company.
“I extend my sympathy to Archbishop Noel’s family and friends and to Bishop Alan McGuckian and the priests and people of Down and Connor in this time of loss.”
Tributes have also been paid to Archbishop Treanor by the Bishop of Down and Dromore, the Rt Rev David McClay, and the Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Rev John McDowell.
