Copyright infringement and Libya Appeal (September 2023)

Tuesday August 27th 2024

The Church of Ireland Press Office wishes to alert any parishes who may have shared an image relating to floods in Libya in September 2023 that unfortunately this image is in breach of copyright.

Christian Aid, who issued the image, has made the Press Office aware it was purchased from a news agency for use by a Christian Aid partner agency – but without the ability for third party organisations to then share again on their websites and other materials.

Parishes are asked to review websites and feeds and remove the image from all websites (including image libraries) and social media feeds on which it was published. This will help to avoid claim letters from an agency which searches for photos published without copyright permission.

A copy of the image is available from your DCO – contact Karen Bushby on dco@connordiocese.org if you think you may have shared this image and need help to identify it. If you have received a letter or email regarding this or other images, please send this to Karen who will forward it to the Press Office.

Christian Aid has apologised for the error and is taking steps to ensure copyright infringements are avoided in future.

If you need further advice or information, please contact Karen.

Parishes may find the following Parish Resources guidance on copyright and photography helpful: https://www.ireland.anglican.org/parish-resources/693/copyright-and-photography-guidance
