The Rev Andy Moore, curate in Ballymena Parish and Chair of the Christian Ambulance Association (CAA), attended the Emergency Services Show (ESS) in the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on Wednesday September 17.

The CAA shared a stand with the Christian Police Association and Firefighters For Christ. The ESS attracts thousands of people from the main emergency and rescue services across the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and internationally.

Whilst it normally showcases latest equipment, vehicles and uniforms, it also has stands for charities and organisations linked with the emergency sector. The CAA was based in the collaboration area with rescue services, PTSD charities and organisations that help staff.

“We spoke with hundreds of people, many from the ambulance sector, and engaged with leading organisations around multidisciplinary approaches to staff welfare and care,” Andy said.

The following day he attended the National Arboretum in Staffordshire for the annual Ambulance Service Memorial Remembrance Service which was attended by more than 200 staff from across the UK, Channel Islands and further afield.

During the service, the names of staff past and present who had died within the last year were read aloud. Following which, the CAA laid a wreath in remembrance of all who have passed and had served.

Andy said: “I had an amazing two days, firstly connecting with staff, volunteers and relatives at the ESS, and then taking part in the Remembrance Service. This year marks 20 years since the memorial was unveiled.

“Representing the CAA and the Church has been a huge honour these last two days, and the opportunities for witness have been significant.”
