It was the hottest ticket in town! And Connor Mothers’ Union Young Members’ Committee’s Generation Game lived up expectations. [Photo Gallery below].

Taking on the challenge in the event MC’d by the Rev Aaron McAlister (some readers will remember a certain Bruce Forsythe in this role) were Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison and his wife Nadine; Connor Mothers’ Union President Sally Cotter and her husband, the Rev Bob; and Archdeacon Stephen McBride and his curate in Antrim, OLM the Rev Claire Thompson.

More than 100 people from different MU branches across the diocese attended the evening held in St Patricks Parish Halls, Ballymena, on September 26.

The contestants all entered into the event with enthusiasm if not a little uncertainty of what was to come.

They faced two practical challenges which prompted much fun and laughter.

The Young Members Committee is grateful to Drum Major Spinner who gave a demonstration of his drumming skills and then asked the contestants to do the same, and McCall Gilfillan who showed her talent in pottery making before challenging the teams to emulate her craft.

Melanie McAlister, one of the event organisers, said: “The pots our contestants made where very good for a first try!”

The evening also featured a marketplace with items to buy from the Rev Louise Stewart with her Divine Crafts and the Bookwell, and the MU Enterprises stall made £300 on the night.

Melanie said: “We took an overall amount of £546.60 and after expenses this will go to MU funds. Thank you to all the Young Members Committee for all their hard work for what turned out to be a very good night.”
