Lisa Bailey, Cancer Research Uk Relationship Manager for Northern Ireland, receives a cheque for £1,120 from Jean Bovill, organist at Ballyscullion Parish Church and a member of the fundraising team, and Ivan Bond, also a member of the fundraising team.

Ballyscullion Parish held an evening of music, fun and fellowship on November 8, raising £1,120 for Cancer Research UK.

The event was well supported by members of the parish and the local community, and a cheque was presented to Lisa Bailey, Cancer Research UK Relationship Manager for Northern Ireland.

Fundraising team member Ivan Bond said: “We choose Cancer Research UK as our charity of choice as all monies collected in the province stay in Northern Ireland and we as a group felt that finding a cure or treatment for cancer is one of the most urgent needs for today’s society.”

Expressing her ‘heartfelt thanks’ to Ballyscullion Parish, Ms Bailey said: “We are deeply grateful to Ballyscullion Parish Church for their generous donation to Cancer Research UK. Your incredible support is helping to fund vital research that saves lives here in Northern Ireland and beyond.

“Thanks to donations like yours, we can continue to support cutting-edge work in Belfast, where our researchers specialise in bowel and oesophageal cancers and develop precision medicine treatments tailored to individual patients. In 2023/2024, we invested almost £1 million in Belfast’s life-saving research, which has already transformed the lives of so many.”

Ms Bailey’s message to the parish continues: “Cancer affects all of us, with around 10,000 people diagnosed in Northern Ireland each year. However, thanks to advancements in research, cancer deaths have fallen by five per cent over the past decade, and today more than half of all cancers are diagnosed early. This progress brings us closer to our ambitious goal: To see three in four people surviving their cancer by 2034.

“Your support directly contributes to breakthroughs like these, ensuring that no one faces cancer alone. Together, we’re helping to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
