The community of Greenisland came together in support of their friends in the Church of the Holy Name, whose building was destroyed in an arson attack on September 1.
The Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison, says the Church of the Holy Name which was devastated by last night’s blaze in the church building is ‘alive and well.’
The Rev Isy Hawthorne-Steele, priest-in-charge of Greenisland Parish, said the fire that destroyed the parish hall and damaged the church just hours after 70th anniversary celebrations is ‘just devastating.’
For a time this morning, it was feared 70 years of documented history had gone up in flames in the arson attack on the Church of the Holy Name, Greenisland, on Sunday September 1.

Joy turned to heartbreak on Sunday night when, hours after the Church of the Holy Name, Greenisland, celebrated its 70th anniversary, flames devastated the parish hall, attached to the church.
