SAMS Ireland appoints new Mission Director

The Rev Geoff Hamilton has been appointed Mission Director of SAMS Ireland, the South American Mission Society.
Geoff succeeds the Rev Stephen McElhinney, now rector in Glenavy Parish, Connor Diocese. He is no stranger to South America as he served as a volunteer in Paraguay and Bolivia in his early 20s, returning in his mid-20s as a mission partner serving with the Anglican Church in Uruguay.
Geoff later worked with SAMS Ireland as Development Officer before training for ordination at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute.
He has served in St Columba’s, Portadown, and St Mark’s, Armagh, both Armagh Diocese, and in Kilhorne, Annalong, and later Dromore Cathedral, both Diocese of Down and Dromore.
Geoff is married to Jill, a former Children’s Ministry Officer with Connor Diocese. Of his new role, Geoff said: “What a privilege and responsibiblity to serve in a different way here at home and also in South America.”
