Bishop George Davison collects the prizes for Connor winners in the Church of Ireland Communications Competition – Kilbride Parish, Agherton Parish and ‘Connor Connections.’

There were a number of Connor winners in this year’s Church of Ireland Communications Competition, with Kilbride Parish, Agherton Parish and the diocesan magazine picking up prizes.

The Kilbride Herald, published by Kilbride Parish, Doagh, was the runner up in the Parish Magazine category.

The judge commented: “The layout is clean, featuring an easy-to-read typeface in a comfortable font size – more readable than many others. News and updates are well-sized, complemented by quality photographs.”

The Voice, published by Agherton Parish, Portstewart, was highly commended in the same category for its ‘consistent and helpful layout’ and “simple and cost-effective approach with informative content.’

In the Diocesan Magazine Category, Connor’s magazine Connor Connections was highly commended, with the  judge commenting on ‘how it wasn’t as long as some,’ and contained ‘just the necessary and important information and articles.’

The annual competition ran in advance of General Synod, held in Naas, Co Kildare, from May 9-10, and celebrated the wide range of print media produced by church communities and organisations.

A total of 28 editors entered the competition, and comments from the competition judge are available on request by entrants.

Bishop Pat Storey, Chair of the Central Communications Board, said: “While communications takes many forms in an increasingly digital world, print media continues to have a very important role in tangibly placing news, photos and features from church life into the hands of many people around our Church.  I commend everyone who took part in this year’s competition and thank all who put their time, skill and attention into producing publications that celebrate and share our many good news stories.”
