Gartree Parish Church.

Six of the windows in Gartree Parish Church are to be restored in the course of the next year, thanks to grant aid from the National Churches Trust and The Wolfston Foundation.

Gartree Parish has expressed its gratitude to both organisations for their support and ‘generous funding.’

Gartree Church dates from 1830-31 and cost £1,200 to build. The architect was Englishman Edward Sands. Situated on the site of the ancient church of Kilmachevet, the church is built of random basalt and has a square tower 30 feet high with four sharply cut stone pinnacles. The tower houses a bell and also serves as a porch leading to the main door in the west wall. The very ornate gateway to Gartree Church was erected by parishioners in memory of Captain John Armstrong, an agent to the Pakenhams at Longford Lodge and also a magistrate in the area.

The Rev John Farr is the current priest-in-charge.
