As the Season of Remembrance approaches, a selection of events and diary notes which may help with your plans can be found in the upcoming events section of the Church of Ireland website.

Further details will be available across Church of Ireland websites and publications closer to the time of Remembrance Sunday (which is taking place this year on Sunday November 9) and Armistice Day on Tuesday November 11.

In the Church of Ireland’s liturgy, the following readings are suggested as suitable for Remembrance Sunday:

  • Isaiah 2:1-5 or Isaiah 10.33-11.9 or Ezekiel 37:1-14
  • Psalm 4 or Psalm 47 or Psalm 93 or Psalm 126 or Psalm 130
  • Romans 8:31-39 or Revelation 1:1-7
  • Matthew 5:1-12 or John 15:9-17

Any combination of the above readings may be used.  Collect Two and the Post Communion Prayer for The Third Sunday before Advent are also suitable for use on Remembrance Sunday.

A Service of the Word, produced by the Liturgical Advisory Committee as part of the centenary commemorations for the First World War, includes useful prayers and related resources which may be of help for those marking Remembrance Sunday.  This can be found at the following page: www.churchofireland.org/prayer-worship/worship-resources/commemoration-liturgies/world-war-one-commemorations
