The Rev Allister Mallon

Friday January 9th 2026

The later Rev Allister Mallon.

It is with sadness we record the passing of the Rev Allister Mallon on January 8, and express our deepest condolences to his wife Sanna, their children Ben, Judith and Asa, and the wider family circle.

The entirety of Allister’s ministry was in the Diocese of Connor, serving as a curate both in the parishes of Ballymoney, Finvoy and Rasharkin, and St Mary’s with Holy Redeemer, before he became rector in St Mary Magdalene, Belfast, and later in St John’s, Stoneyford.

In retirement, Allister faithfully served parishioners in St Colman’s, Dunmurry. He was a hospital chaplain throughout his active ministry.

Archdeacon Barry Forde, Bishop’s Commissary, said: “I am deeply saddened by this news and wish to convey on both behalf of the Bishop and the diocese our condolences to Sanna and the family circle.

“Allister had an extensive ministry as a faithful parish priest over many years. His commitment, shared by Sanna, to hospital chaplaincy saw him journey with many hurting people in their own times of difficulty and even bereavement, bringing comfort and support, along with the hope we have in Christ.

“It is that hope that I pray sustains Sanna and the family, and that they will know the comfort and support of all our prayers.”

A Service of Thanksgiving for Allister’s life will be held in St Colman’s Parish Church, Dunmurry, on Sunday January 11 at 2.30pm, followed by a committal at Lambeg Parish Churchyard.
