The Events Committee of Magheragall Parish Church raised more than £6,212 at the parish’s second annual Charity Vehicle Run.
This was presented to Michael Nugent, Community Outreach Manager with the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, last December.
On a relatively fair day in September, more than 70 vehicles, including lorries, tractors, cars, motorcycles and even a construction dumper truck, followed two routes, one of approximately 14 miles for the lighter vehicles and 11 miles on wider roads for the heavy vehicles.
The vehicle run began at 2pm and most vehicles returned by 3.30pm. when participants enjoyed hot food, tea, coffee and sweet treats in the Church Hall catered for by members of the Events Committee.
All refreshments were free of charge, but donations were gratefully received. There was live music provided by The Banjo Group, and the hot food, burgers, sausages and baps were kindly donated by Yewtree Farm Meats, Antrim and Mackey’s Bakery, Lisburn.
After refreshments, there was an auction of items both vehicular and household, kindly donated by many local businesses.
Following his visit, Mr Nugent wrote to the Parish to convey the thanks of the Hospice Team. “Caring is at the heart of everything we do, and this donation will help us to continue to provide specialist nursing care for local people with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness and support their families,” Mr Nugent wrote.
“We believe that everyone matters and deserve the best possible care at the end of life. We understand that families need emotional and practical support to care for loved ones during these difficult times.”
