More than 110 people from the United Parish of St Nicholas’ and All Saints’, Belfast came together in Castlewellan Castle for the now-annual church weekend.
Spanning generations from just five months old to those in their late 70s, the group reflected the rich diversity and warmth of the church family. Across the weekend, there was a shared sense of joy as participants made the most of the beautiful surroundings, enjoyed hearty meals, and spent time building deeper friendships.

A highlight of the weekend was the Bible teaching from Jay Behan, a bishop from New Zealand, who spoke on Genesis 37-41, tracing 13 formative years in the life of Joseph. Through Joseph’s journey – from favour to betrayal, from prison to prominence – Jay unpacked what it means to trust in God’s character and promises, even in the most difficult and uncertain seasons of life. His engaging and accessible style helped bring the narrative to life, offering both encouragement and challenge to listeners of all ages.
The rector, the Rev Trevor Johnston, said: “Alongside the teaching sessions, the weekend was filled with a variety of activities, from relaxed walks and informal conversations to children’s games and times of shared worship. These moments created space not only for fun and rest, but also for meaningful connection and growth together in the Gospel.
“By the end of the three days, many left feeling refreshed, encouraged, and more deeply rooted in their faith. The weekend served as a reminder of the strength found in community and the hope that comes from trusting God, whatever circumstances we may face.”
