The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally, will preach at this Saturday’s Closing Service of the 19th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council.

An international group of more than 100 Anglicans with ecumenical guests will attend the service at St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast. Bishops, clergy and laity from all over the world will be present.

The service will be led by Archbishop Hosam Naoum (Anglican Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East) and Archbishop John McDowell (Church of Ireland Primate).

It is the closing service of a weeklong programme of the 19th Anglican Consultative Council that has been hosted by the Church of Ireland in Belfast.

Earlier in the week the group took part in a pilgrimage to Derry/Londonderry, where they heard more about the Church of Ireland’s ministry in the region and prayed for the work of peace and reconciliation around the world.

The service at St Anne’s will conclude a week of sessions focused on prayer, Bible study and conversation. By meeting together, the representatives of hundreds of churches from across the globe have been finding ways to collaborate in their ministry and advocate on major issues impacting people and planet, including climate crisis, poverty, conflict and migration crisis.

The ACC-19 Conference Opening Service was held in Belfast Cathedral on Sunday June 28, when the preacher was the Chair of the Anglican Consultative Council, Canon Maggie Swinson.
