Melissa Newell, who serves with SAMS Ireland in Ecuador, recently visited the Chaco region of Northern Argentina where she met with Alec Deane from the SIWOK Project.
Alec works alongside the indigenous communities, passing on valuable skills in agriculture, and the project is one of a number supported by Connor Diocese in partnership with Sams Ireland.
In this video from the Chaco, Melissa and Alec speak about the life-saving value of clean, fresh water.
Sharing the video, SAMS Mission Director Geoff Hamilton said: “What an encouragement to support Christians in Northern Argentina who recognise that the Gospel speaks to the whole of life.
“God’s grace transforms not only our relationship with God, but also how we understand our responsibilities towards one another and the world around us.
“Providing access to clean water, helping families grow food and standing alongside communities facing hardship are practical expressions of that faith.
“These acts of compassion are not alternatives to proclaiming Jesus Christ, but expressions of the love and justice that should characterise those who follow Christ. Through both words and actions, we seek to bear witness to the good news of Jesus Christ.
“Thankyou Connor Diocese for being part of our Chaco story in Northern Argentina.”
