Coast to Coast walker Gail Callen collects sponsorship with a friend. Her challenge gets underway on September 8.Derrykeighan parishioner Gail Callan is about to step out on her mammoth Coast to Coast walk across England.

Starting on September 8 and finishing on September 23, taking only one rest day, Gail will trek more than 190 miles from one side of England to the other.

Her walk from St Bees on the west coast to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast will take Gail through three National Parks – the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors National Parks.

Gail is currently gathering sponsorship from both congregations in the grouped parish of Billy & Derrykeighan and has organised two table quizzes in a local bar/restaurant. She has also been bag packing at local supermarkets.

All proceeds from her Coast to Coast walk will be divided between the Friends of the Cancer Centre and Derrykeighan Parish Church Building and Repair Fund.

Gail is a Parish Reader as well as being the Secretary of the Select Vestry in Derrykeighan.

A keen walker, she was inspired to do the Coast to Coast walk after watching a television programme. “I had had been watching a series presented by Julia Bradbury and decided that the Coast to Coast walk would be a good way of raising funds.

“My church in Derrykeighan needs a lot of work done to it and our family knows about the good work done by the Friends of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital so I decided to fundraise for both my church’s Building and Repair Fund and the Cancer Centre.”
