The Rev Nathan Ervine, curate in St Nicholas’, Carrickfergus, has been appointed priest-in-charge of the Parish of Monkstown.
The Church of the Good Shepherd (COGS) is a single congregation local covenant partnership between the Church of Ireland and the Methodist Church, which was officially recognised in 2006.
Nathan is married to Grace, and they have two young sons. He grew up in Lisburn, worshipping in Lisburn Cathedral.
Before training for ordination, Nathan did an undergraduate Degree in Theology at the Irish Baptist College. He also worked as the Youth and Families Worker in St Peter’s, Antrim Road, Belfast, in the year leading up to beginning ordination training. Previously, he trained as a joiner and worked at building climbing frames and sheds.
Nathan was ordained a deacon in 2020 and served his deacon intern year in Magheragall Parish, before his ordination as a priest in 2021 and his move to St Nicholas’.
He said: “We are looking forward to moving to Monkstown and getting to know the people within the church and within the local community. It is a real privilege to be part of what God is doing and has in store for Monkstown.
“We have very much felt part of the family in St Nicholas’, Carrickfergus, over the last two years and it has been a joy to minister alongside them, so while we are excited for what God has in store, it will be hard to say goodbye!”
A date for the Service of Introduction has not yet been set.
