Award-winning organist appointed at St Patrick’s, Ballymena

Dr Jonathan Drennan, organist at St Patrick's, Ballymena.Dr Jonathan Drennan has been appointed to the position of organist and choirmaster at St Patrick’s, Parish Church, Ballymena.

Jonathan graduated with a 1st-class degree in music from the University of Ulster in 1997, majoring in piano performance with JD Cullington. He completed his PhD in Venetian choral music in 2002, under the direction of Desmond Hunter (University of Ulster) and Michael Talbot (University of Liverpool). 

Jonathan has lectured in music at both the University of Ulster and Queen’s University, Belfast, and currently freelances as a professional musician in both the UK and Italy.  His writings on, and editions of Italian sacred choral music are published internationally through Oxford University Press, the Fondazione Italiana per la Musica Antica and A-R Editions (Wisconsin). 

Since 2004 he has received two prestigious awards for music research from the British Academy (London).

St Patrick’s choir is currently rehearsing for a special service of Advent Music and Readings which will take place in the church in Castle  Street, Ballymena on Sunday November 29 at 6.30pm.
