Derryvolgie Parish 60th anniversary service

October 1, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

A Service of Celebration takes place in St Columba’s, Derryvolgie, on Sunday October 1 as the parish marks its 60th anniversary.

In July 1963, both the Diocese of Connor and the RCB gave permission for the brand-new parish of Derryvolgie to be created. The Rev Bertram Livingston was tasked with the job of establishing and rooting this parish into this local community.

The current rector, the Rev James Boyd, said: “We were born in what is now the Mace shop on the Moss Road before moving to our current site.

“It is great to see the parish developing and growing in so many ways, not just numerically but also as we deepen our faith together, growing in our relationship with God and one another.

“We give thanks for the faithful witness of so many over the last 60 years in the life of the Parish of Derryvolgie and we will have many events to celebrate this fact in this our 60th year.

The weekend’s celebrations include an Afternoon Tea and Exhibition on Saturday September 30 – a chance to catch up and look at back on all that has happened in Derryvolgie Parish over the last 60 years. Tickets can be booked HERE, and all proceeds will go towards the new building fund.

The weekend will culminate in the service led by the Rt Rev George Davison, Bishop of Connor, on October 1 at 10.30am, to which all are welcome.
