‘Be Still and Know,’ an introduction to centering prayer, will take place in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast on Saturday, March 4 from 9.45am–1pm.
Speaker at this event, which is organised by St Anne’s Cathedral and Corrymeela, is the Rev Alan Lorimer.
Alan Lorimer is a Minister in the Methodist Church in Ireland. He is currently based in well.com in North Belfast as a Pioneer Ministry Leader and in Mossley Methodist Church. He is a Chartered Psychologist(PSsI) and is also an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (BABCP).
Alan works with a wide range of mental health difficulties with a specialist interest in the integration of spirituality and psychotherapy. He practices and is trained in Mindfulness- based CBT and is a trainer and retreat leader in Centering Prayer. Alan is a member of the Core Team of Contemplative Outreach Ireland.
Alan says: “Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.
“This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. It is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer, rather it is one means of grace.”
Through this workshop, Alan will outline the background to centering prayer and introduce how to practise this form of prayer. There will also be an opportunity to practise centering prayer.
To register your interest in attending ‘Be Still and Know,’ please contact Alan Lorimer at 07717496686 or email alan.lorimer@btinternet.com; or Desney Cromey at 02890 864563 or Trevor Williams at bishoptrevor.williams@gmail.com
This stand-alone event will be followed by ‘Sanctus – Come savour silence in the rhythm of prayer’ in sacred space at St Anne’s on Wednesdays March 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th @ 4.30pm in the Chapel of Unity. Followed by Choral Evensong at 5.30pm.
