The Death of Evangelism – Clive West Memorial Lecture 2018

November 27, 2018 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Phillip Jensen, former Dean of Sydney, delivers this year’s Clive West Memorial Lecture entitled ‘The Death of Evangelism’ on Tuesday November 27.

The lecture, which begins at 7.45pm, takes place in All Saints’ Church, University Street, Belfast.

Large numbers, strong churches, numerous publications, serious thinkers, prominent voices and a place in society, evangelicalism has never had it so good.

But is all well? Has the term become so diffuse and the constituency so broad that the core values and historical distinctions have become less of an issue? Or is this how it should be?

What is an evangelical? Is it just another expression (alongside others) of Christianity? Might evangelicalism be on the decline as other expressions of Christian spirituality increase in popularity and adherence?

These and other questions will be addressed by Philip Jensen, the former Dean of Sydney and Anglican Chaplain to the University of New South Wales, Australia. He is a speaker, author, church planter, the founder of the St Matthias Press and has spoken at events across the world. Through his ministry, thousands have entered full-time gospel ministry and come to know Christ. He is one of the most significant Christian leaders and thinkers of this last half-century.

The West Trust was established to enable men and women to train for Christian ministry at the world’s best theological colleges and offers a regular lecture. The trust bears the name of Clive West who was minister of All Saints’ Church from 1984 to 2000 and a Canon of Belfast Cathedral.
