Children’s ministry project underway in Connor

Friday October 10th 2008

A major children’s ministry project is underway in Connor Diocese.

Mrs Margaret Fullerton, a member of Lisburn Cathedral, has been appointed to undertake research to ascertain the needs for ministry among children in the diocese.

Mrs Fullerton is an experienced teacher in the pre-school, primary and secondary sectors and is an active member of her parish with years of voluntary experience in children’s ministry and Girl Guiding.

Her role will firstly be to gather the issues the diocese has with ministry amongst children. She will spend her first few months talking to clergy across the diocese, before setting up opportunities to talk to children directly about their views on the church and how it impacts on their faith development.

The initiative is being co-ordinated by Peter Hamill, Diocesan Training Co-ordinator, who will be carrying out research with leaders of children’s ministry to find the best way to support and encourage them in their work.

The outcome of the research by both Mrs Fullerton and Mr Hamill will help form a diocesan children’s strategy.

The academic work for the project is being supervised by Professor Leslie Francis of Warwick University, who will meet with clergy next year to discuss children’s ministry.
