Church of Ireland General Synod set for Armagh

Wednesday April 22nd 2009

The General Synod of the Church of Ireland will take place from Friday May 8 to Sunday May 10 at the Armagh City Hotel. The Synod is scheduled to begin at 10am on the Friday and to finish at 4.30pm on the Sunday. The Synod Service will be held in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh on Sunday 10 at 11am.

In preparing to welcome people to Armagh in May, the Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Rev Alan Harper, said: ‘General Synod 2009, meeting in Armagh over a weekend for the first time, occurs at a time of great challenge and great opportunity for the Church of Ireland. I urge all Synod members to participate fully in debating the issues, determining the priorities and making the decisions that will shape church life in the new global environment emerging from the meltdown of the world’s economic and financial systems.’

Those wishing to book accommodation at the Armagh City Hotel during Synod should inform the hotel that they are booking in for attendance at the General Synod.
