Community Carol Service in St Matthew’s

Wednesday December 16th 2009

On Sunday December 20, St Matthew’s, Shankill, will host their third annual Community Carol Service with the 1st Old Boys Band under their conductor, Stephen Cairns.

The readings, in the traditional pattern, will be read by representatives of groups and professions serving the local community, including the High Sheriff of Belfast, the Chief Executive of the Greater Shankill Partnership, a local primary school teacher, and the Minister of Woodvale Methodist Church, whose congregation is joining in the service.

Other readers include representatives of The Mater Hospital, the Greater Shankill Community Safety Network, the Shankill Mirror, and a young member of St Matthews’ congregation.

The 1st Old Boys Band is a concert brass band of international standing.  The spaciousness and acoustic of St Matthew’s make a wonderful setting in which voices and instruments join in praise.  The carols have been chosen to appeal to all ages.

A collection will be taken for the Northern Ireland Hospice.

The service begins at 6.30 pm.  Refreshments will be served afterwards in the church.  All are welcome.
