Music in May concerts at Christ Church Parish, Lisburn

Tuesday May 4th 2010

Richard Yarr, organist at Christ Church, Lisburn. The members of Christ Church Parish Choir invite you to join them for the 2010 series of three lunchtime concerts in Christ Church this May.

They have been delighted by the support the concerts have received since they were first established in 2006 and very much hope people will feel inspired to come again this year.

The concerts will be held in the recently renovated church each Tuesday at 1.15pm and will last approximately 30 minutes. The programme is as follows:

Tuesday May 11: This not to be missed concert will feature a programme of classical and popular favourites performed by leading clarinettist Gillian McCutheon.  A born entertainer, she is much in demand as a soloist across Ireland and beyond.  You may even recognise her as one of the teachers in the BBC’s recent Compose Yourself programme!   Gillian will be accompanied by Belfast pianist, Mark McGrath – Director of Music at St Finnian’s Parish Church.

Tuesday May 18: The sounds of the Ulster Orchestra’s Principal trumpeter Paul Young will be raising the roof as accompanied by Christ Church’s organist Richard Yarr they will perform a selection of rousing trumpet tunes which are sure to lift the spirits!  This is a great opportunity to hear one of Northern Ireland’s finest musicians in concert.

Tuesday May 25: The final concert will feature a showcase of Lisburn talent including Riverdale Primary School, winner of the recent Lisburn City Primary School Choir of the Year 2010.  Their singing is first rate and they’ll be performing everything from show tunes to sacred favourites.  Sure to be a great end to this year’s series.

Admission to all concerts is free although retiring donations will be gratefully appreciated.

Members of the Church Choir will be serving lunch from 12.15pm on the day of each concert.  A choice of hot food, salads, desserts and refreshments will be available at a cost of just £6.50 providing a great chance to enjoy a time of fellowship before a musical treat.  In light of previous demand for lunches, early booking would be strongly advised. People can sign the sheets in the church porch or contact Iris in the Parish Office on 028 9267 3271
