Archbishop asks for prayers for the people of Japan

Wednesday March 16th 2011

The Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, The Most Rev Alan Harper, OBE, has called for prayers to be offered in Church of Ireland churches on Sunday March 20 for all those affected by the recent devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Archbishop Harper wrote to Archbishop Nathaniel Uematsu, Primate of the Nippon Sei Ko Kai (Anglican Communion in Japan), on March 12 to convey on behalf of the members of the Church of Ireland his shock and distress at the devastation and loss of life caused on the north east coast of the country.

The Archbishop assured Archbishop Nathaniel that the thoughts of the people of the Church of Ireland are with all of those in Japan who have been caught up in this tragic sequence of events, praying that the God of grace and comfort will sustain them in their present trials.
