Schools and faith are topic of lunchtime lecture

Tuesday January 3rd 2012

David Armstrong.‘Schools and Faith’ is the title of the next lunchtime lecture to be given at St Bartholomew’s Church, Stranmillis Road, Belfast.

The lecture will be delivered by David Armstrong, Senior Lecturer in Education, Stranmillis University College, on Tuesday January 17.

Subtitled ‘How Christian is Religious Education?’ the lecture is set against the background of far–reaching changes in school curricula which have taken place in recent years, the subject of Religious Education not being exempt.

Some concern has been expressed that the particular status of the Christian faith has been eroded, with comparative religion coming to the fore in its place.

Lecturer David Armstrong has been on the staff of Stranmillis University College since 2002. His previous positions include Head of Religious Studies for Controlled Grammar Schools in Northern Ireland and Head of Religious Studies of an international school in South India.

Everyone is welcome at this lecture, which commences at 1.10pm. It will include a time for questions, and light refreshments will also be available.
