New capital funding scheme for voluntary youth organisations

Education Minister John O’Dowd has announced the opening of a new capital funding scheme for voluntary youth organisations.

A youth budget of £10million is available for capital funding projects across 2013/14 and 2014/15 to be divided between voluntary and controlled youth sectors.

To be eligible to apply for funding an organisation must be:
• registered with the local education and library board; or receive funding from the Youth Council for Northern Ireland; and
• be able to demonstrate the operation of Youth Service Programmes for at least nine hours per week for a minimum of 30 weeks per annum.

Grant aid can assist with the costs of refurbishing premises, improving facilities or access for people with disabilities, bringing the property up to current health, safety and fire authority standards, towards child protection measures or meeting needs of young people within Section 75 / those at greater risk of social exclusion / marginalisation.

Grant aid is available in two categories
• Minor Works – Scheme costing up to a maximum of £150,000 incl VAT & fees.
• Major Works – Scheme costing over £150,000
