All Saints’ Cairncastle gearing up for fete’s big Bake Off

Peter, well known to diners at the Ballygally Castle Hotel for his sumptuous sweets and cakes, said the secret to a prize–winning cake was presentation, texture, flavour and quality ingredients, and admitted he particularly loves tradition with a twist!

There are four categories to enter at this weekend’s fete – professional, amateur iced cake, amateur uniced cake and junior cupcakes (plate of four). Entry details can be obtained from BAKE, Upper Cainrncastle Road or by emailing gfbakeoff@gmail.com.

The Bake Off is part of the new–look Parish Fete at All Saints’ Church, Linn Road, Larne which has moved from its Friday evening slot to Saturday from 2pm – 4.30pm, Budding bakers can enter their cakes from 11am on Saturday morning.

Other features at the fete are a bouncy castle, teas and coffees, a performance from the Magheramorne Silver Band plus a high quality raffle with some really great prizes. These include a P & O Ferries return ticket to Scotland, a two night stay at the Ballycastle Holiday Apartments, a carvery meal for two at the Ballygally Castle Hotel and tickets for the Larne Omniplex Cinema.

Other popular stalls include the barbecue, tombola, toys, cakes, plants (with stock donated by Inver Garden Centre), kids crafts, chocolate fountain and bran tub.

The Rev Roger Thompson, rector of St Patrick’s, Cairncastle with All Saints’, Craigyhill, said: “I’m really excited about this year’s fete and can’t wait to see what creations are submitted for the Bake Off.

“I am so thankful to Peter for agreeing to take time out of his busy schedule to be our judge, and also to all our sponsors who have donated such great prizes and other items. With the weather at last set to get hotter this week I’m hoping for a real sizzler on Saturday!”
