A General Synod Ireland–wide Census of the Church of Ireland will take place during November 2013.
Census cards will be distributed in parishes on three Sundays in the month – the 3rd, 17 and 24th. The cards are colour coded for each date.
Reminding clergy to participate in the census, Diocesan Secretary June Butler said: “The statistical data returned now, and triennially hereafter, will inform planning by the Representative Church Body for the future. Uniform statistical data across all the dioceses in Ireland is currently just not available and this is the beginning of the process to rectify that situation.”
Mrs Butler has written to all incumbents and clergy in charge giving them guidance on how to both organise the collection of data and to interpret the questions. Census results are to be collated on a summary sheet which each parish has been provided with, and these should be returned to Diocesan Office on later than Friday November 29.
