Dr Don Carson leads Crosslinks Conference on The Uniqueness of Christ

Tuesday January 28th 2014

Crosslinks Conference 2014.International mission society Crosslinks is hosting a conference with Dr Don Carson in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast on Friday January 31 and Saturday February 1.

The conference, entitled ‘The Uniqueness of Christ,’ intends to affirm and explore the conviction that Jesus Christ is the only means of salvation in the context of a religiously pluralistic society and, sometimes church.

The conference will provide a strong biblical foundation and renewed confidence in Christ as the only Saviour and Lord, as well as highlighting current threats to this position and, consequently, a weakening rationale for mission and confidence in the Gospel.

Don Carson (Ph.D., University of Cambridge) is research professor of New Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He is a prolific thinker, author, bible scholar and exegete and has a very keen interest in world mission.

He has served as assistant pastor and pastor and has done itinerant ministry in Canada and the United Kingdom. Carson is co–founder (with Tim Keller) and president of The Gospel Coalition. His work on pluralism and Christianity (in e.g. The Gagging of God (Baker, 1996)) is seminal. His father, a Congregational pastor, was born in Carrickfergus.

Dr Carson will lead four sessions:

• Jesus the Only Redeemer
• Jesus the Unique Messiah
• Jesus the Unique Son of God
• Jesus the Unique Word of God

In advance of the conference, the Rev Trevor Johnston, Crosslinks Ireland Team Leader, said: “In a world of various religious options, there are few more controversial topics than the Uniqueness of Jesus Christ. To say that the only way to God is through Jesus Christ alone opens one to the charge of arrogance – even worse, intolerance.

“To claim that there is no salvation for anyone outside Christ is hard for twenty–first century ears to hear, yet it is a building block of the historic Christian faith. We are honoured to have Don Carson lead us in our sessions. He has helped many around the world grapple with these issues.”

The conference is open to all and further details and booking are available at www.crosslinks.org/exclusive
