New Connor Youth Council hosting ‘The Event’ in March

Friday February 21st 2014

The Event - March 29 - Ballymena.A new Youth Council has been formed in Connor Diocese under the banner ‘Engage,’ with a big celebration planned for March 29.

‘The Event’ will take place in St Patrick’s Parish Hall, Ballymena, and is aimed at all young people aged 11 and over. The evening, which gets underway at 7pm, will feature the Mark Ferguson Band, piles of pizza and interviews with local celebrities and lots of fun.

Headed up by the Rev Peter Ferguson, curate at St Nicholas, Carrickfergus, Engage will build on the many models of successful youth work already being undertaken in parishes across Connor Diocese and will develop new projects in the future.

Peter said Engage will work towards making young people feel a part of the Connor Community. Individuals in churches will be empowered to deliver effective youth work, leading to a growth in youth leadership. Gifts and talents will be utilised right across the diocese, and there will be a visible youth presence in every rural deanery, perhaps along the Energize model already active in Ballymena Rural Deanery.

Engage also aims to research and develop youth resources, provide an up–to–date database, develop a programme for training and development, ensure there is an intergenerational aspect to youth work, and secure a youth presence on Diocesan Council.

Peter said Engage would work to grow a sense of family and team across the diocese and to ensure young people are both a blessing to the wider church and are also blessed by the wider church family.

As well as ‘The Event’ Engage is planning a second diocesan–wide celebration in December, a diocesan youth weekend in September and will be encouraging Connor togetherness at the annual Summer Madness camp.
