Friday February 21st 2014

Connor Connections Spring 2014The spring edition of the diocesan magazine Connor Connections is now available free from clergy in all parishes in the diocese.

In this issue we introduce our new Children’s Project Development Officer Jill Hamilton, who outlines what she has been doing since joining the diocesan team last November, and her vision for children’s ministry in Connor.

There is a feature on Muckamore’s innovative Flute Band Church, and a look at the work done by Friends in Action, drilling wells and providing people in remote villages in West Africa with ‘a clean cup of water in Christ’s name.’

Dean John Mann sums up the highlights of last year’s diocesan pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and we have extracts from the Bishop of Connor’s daily reports during his time at the 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Busan, Republic of Korea.

There is also the latest from South Sudan. A team from Connor, headed by Bishop Alan Abernethy, was due to travel to Yei Diocese in January but this had to be postponed due to civil unrest there which has claimed the lives of more than 10,000 people. Details of how to support the CMS Ireland Emergency Appeal for South Sudan are included.

The Rev Roger Thompson, rector of Cairncastle and Craigyhill looks back on a sabbatical in East Africa which had a ‘profound’ impact on him and his family.

Irish classes in St George’s, a cross–community knitting venture in Monkstown and 42 brides in Ahoghill all in one day! Read these stories and lots more.
