The British Red Cross today launched a new scheme to support heavily pregnant asylum seekers. With financial support from the Dean of Belfast’s ‘Black Santa’ appeal, the charity has assembled maternity bags containing the essential items needed by a woman when she is admitted to hospital to give birth. The bags will be made available to staff at the ‘New Entrants’ service within Belfast Trust who will be able to distribute them to women who haven’t had the time or resources to purchase basic necessities.
