Prayers for peace in north Belfast continue on streets which are now relatively calm in respect of the death last Friday of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Rev Tracey McRoberts, whose Parish of St Matthew’s was the focal point of much of last week’s street violence, was joined by the Rev Canon James Carson, rector of nearby St Michael and St Stephen’s Parish; Church Army Evangelists Karen Webb and Stephen Whitten from Connect Base, Connor’s North Belfast Centre of Mission; and the Rev Jack Lamb, Townsend Street Presbyterian Church, on a Prayer Walk on the Shankill Road on Tuesday evening, April 13.

Earlier in the day, Tracey and the Rev Martin Magill, Parish Priest in St John’s, Falls Road, were interviewed on RTE Radio’s Drivetime programme about the unrest and their ongoing work in the area. At the request of the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison, and Roman Catholic Bishop of Down and Connor, the Rt Rev Noel Treanor, they organised a Prayer Vigil held in Springfield Road last Friday.
