Big smiles from Ballysillan parishioners George and Norma Briggs, as they line up to enter Windsor Castle for the annual Maundy Thursday Service.

George, 82, was one of 192 older people – 96 men and 96 ladies – to receive Maundy Purses, presented in Windsor Castle by HRH Prince Charles in the absence of Her Majesty The Queen. He was nominated for the honour by the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison.

George, who spoke briefly to Prince Charles at the ceremony, said it had been a fantastic day, and one he will never forget.

Commending George for the Maundy Purse, Bishop George said: “Mr George Briggs has faithfully served the people of his local community, his parish and the wider Church of Ireland.”

George will share more of his experiences on Maundy Thursday, and his work and church life, in the next issue of our diocesan magazine, Connor Connections, which will be available in all parishes in June.
