Congratulations to Mrs Eileen McComb, a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Name, Greenisland, who celebrated her 100th birthday on July 20.

Mrs McComb was a Sunday School teacher in the church, and her daughters Moira and Bridget followed suit. The only birthday gift Mrs McComb wished for was to celebrate Holy Communion with her daughters.

Mrs Eileen McComb celebrates her 100th birthday with the Rev Dr Isy Hawthorne-Steele, priest-in-charge of the Church of the Holy Name, Greenisland, her daughter Moira and Bishop George Davison.

The Rev Dr Isy Hawthorne-Steele, priest-in-charge of the parish, said: “It was a real joy to celebrate the Eurcharist with the family whom I have known as personal friends from childhood. We were able to chat about all our yesterdays and Mrs McComb apologised that she couldn’t get to church services and asked for an update on events and people.”

Rev Isy brought flowers and a card from the parish family and the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison visited and brought a card from Connor Diocese to mark the occasion.

Mrs McComb said she would treasure the visit from the Bishop as something she would never forget. Thanking Mrs McComb for her faithful service, Bishop George told her it was a real privilege for him to be with the family and pray with them on this very special day.
