Appeal for funding for new chairs to mark 120 years of Belfast Cathedral

Thursday November 30th 2023

The Dean of Belfast, the Very Rev Stephen Forde, is appealing to parishes and individuals in the dioceses of Connor and Down and Dromore to support the recently launched ‘Cathedral 120 Chairs Appeal.’

This new appeal seeks to raise £75,000 to replace the original wooden chairs which have filled the Nave of St Anne’s Cathedral for the past 120 years.

The new chairs are to be in place in time for the Cathedral’s Service of Celebration to mark the 120th Anniversary of the consecration of the Nave which will take place on Sunday June 2 2024.

The new quality chairs will be comfortable, moveable and stackable, and will serve as a symbol for the Cathedral’s continued community growth and service for generations to come.

Donors are encouraged to give what they can to the appeal. Those who donate the £150 cost per chair (or £120 & Gift Aid) can have the name of a loved one, with their dates if desired, etched in a commemorative plaque within the Cathedral.

Donations can be made directly by BACS transfer to the Cathedral’s ban account (see www.belfastcathedral.org/news for bank details). Alternatively, a donation can be made by scanning the QR Code below or download a donation form.
