Introduction of the Rev Nathan Ervine in Monkstown

The Rev Nathan Ervine was introduced as priest-in-charge in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Monkstown Parish, at a service on Tuesday December 5.

The Church of the Good Shepherd (COGS) is a single congregation local covenant partnership between the Church of Ireland and the Methodist Church, which was officially recognised in 2006.

Nathan, who was formerly curate in St Nicholas’, Carrickfergus, is married to Grace, and they have two young sons.

He grew up in Lisburn, worshipping in Lisburn Cathedral. Before training for ordination, Nathan did an undergraduate Degree in Theology at the Irish Baptist College. He also worked as the Youth and Families Worker in St Peter’s, Antrim Road, Belfast, in the year leading up to beginning ordination training.  Previously, he trained as a joiner and worked at building climbing frames and sheds. 

Nathan was ordained a deacon in 2020 and served his deacon intern year in Magheragall Parish, before his ordination as a priest in 2021 and his move to St Nicholas’.

Nathan was introduced to Monkstown Parish by the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison. Preacher at the service was the Rev Chris St John, rector of St Nicholas’, Carrickfergus.
