Around 50 youth and children’s ministry leaders gathered in St Patrick’s Parish Centre, Ballymena, on September 7 for Launch, Connor Diocese’s annual kick-off event for those working in these areas of ministry.
Organised by Connor Children’s Ministry Development Officer Victoria Jackson and Connor Youth Council, the event featured inspiring talks, workshops and resources.
Attendees arrived on the Saturday morning to the enticing smell of bacon baps which were thoroughly enjoyed, and after a welcome from Victoria, the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev George Davison, opened with a short devotion.
Thanking everyone for what they do to grow the Kingdom for young people in the dioceese, the Bishop said he hoped everyone would leave the session with lots of good ideas.
“But I really want to emphasise that what you do with our children and young people is not just about organising interesting activities to catch their attention – we engage with them and spend time with them and that in a way helps them understand that they are precious in the sight of God,” Bishop George said.
Recognising that it can be ‘challenging’ work, the Bishop added: “You give up your time to do this important work – make sure you take time with God yourselves, feed your own soul, make that a priority.”
Sarah Colgan and Rachel Sheppard from Scripture Union Northern Ireland gave a talk, before the group split into sessions for children and youth leaders for around an hour before coming back together for discussion and closing just before lunch
The children’s session was led by Rachel Sheppard and Frances Taylor, Whitehead and Islandmagee Parish, while the youth session was led by Sarah Colgan, the Rev Ross Mungavin and Paul Galucci from Big House.
