The Rev Andy Moore, curate in the Parish of Kilconriola and Ballyclug, Ballymena, has just returned from California after a week in Hume Lake Christian Camp with Firefighters for Christ (FFC).

Andy is Chair of the Christian Ambulance Association (CAA). This was the FFC’s first ever First Responders retreat for Emergency Medical Services, namely their ambulance services and police.

Andy said: “There were hundreds of staff there from across the world, and it was, simply put, an amazing experience.

“The conference had several talks from pastors and chaplains, as well as activities for the staff. I went with the Christian Ambulance Association, alongside two other members, and we’ve signed up several key people. We’re hopeful we should have representation in three different states with immediate effect. A great start.”

Andy said a highlight of the week for him was being given the opportunity to drive the fire truck from Hume Lake Fire Department. “I must confess the five-year-old in me enjoyed it!” he said.

He said the CAA has been invited back next year and it is hoped a delegation will attend.

“The FFC are international and help with natural disasters and emergencies across the world. They are keen to make a partnership with CAA moving forward,” Andy said.

“I also was asked to deliver the Act of Remembrance for ambulance and paramedic staff lost in the last 12 months, and it was a real honour to do so.”
